Performing a Defrag on your PC

Here is another program you can run to maximize your PC's performance.

Step 1
Click on your start button

Step 2
Click on Programs

Step 3
Click on Accessories

Step 4
Click on System Tools

Step 5
Click on Disk Defragmenter

You should now be in the disk defragmenter window where you will click on Analyze which is circled in red.

Your machine is now being analyzed by disk defragmenter. This process is checking to see if you have any fragmented files that can be condensed into one volume so your hard drive can look up the information quickly.

Once defrag is done analyzing you will see a popup box that will let you know if your hard drive needs defraging. See picture below. In my case I do not need to defrag my hard drive. If you need to defrag it will say it is recommended that you defrag in which case you will click on the defragment button. This process will depend on how fragmented your hard drive is. When the process is done you should restart your computer. You are done.

Over time the drive gets accumulated with junk and serves as a breeding ground for the fragmentation malady. Its much easier if this is handled at its infancy as the time taken for the task is much lesser. It also helps keep the PC more responsive and serves as a prevetion to drive problems.
